Labour Party said it lost the 2023 presidential election because it failed to effectively utilise the structures of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) available at grassroots level.

Interim National Chairman, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, who stated this at one-day strategic multi-level stakeholders’ summit in Abuja on Wednesday, said even when the party went to challenge the results of the election in court, it could not prove its case because the party couldn’t use the unions to get Form EC8A at polling units.

“Labour Party is the largest political party in Nigeria,” she said, recalling that in 2023 Labour Party was mocked for not having structures, and said it is because the party failed to utilise the NLC and TUC structures.

“There is no polling unit in this country where that you don’t have either a serving worker or a retired worker, we are all over,” she added.

Senator Usman called on party leaders to go back to their wards to mobilise people to register with the party, adding, “no structure can ever be built without a foundation.

“I just want to plead with each and every one of you that when you go back after we must have put our heads together during the technical session, to come up with the ideal way of approaching our members to register.

“Let everybody go back and execute that which we have decided today so that members of the Labour Party can come out enmass to register and get their cards.

“We are not saying that we have a one method fixed or not.

“We are going to look at the peculiarities of each state and at the end of the day, tailor what is going to be suitable for those states so that at the end of the day we will be able to stand.”

Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, said Abia State has been able to demonstrate that the Labour Party is not just an electoral platform, but a vehicle for purposeful governance, accountability and people-centred development.

The governor stated that the progress being made in “infrastructural renewal, institutional reforms, physical discipline and service delivery, stands as evidence that our party is capable of translating this very vision to the national level.”

Otti however, acknowledged that sustainable political success requires internal harmony.

According to him, reuniting the party is about building trust, strengthening structures, deepening communication and ensuring that every stakeholder, from ward level to the national leadership, feels valued and heard.

The governor urged members to begin now to consolidate on the party’s structures, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and membership revalidation, as well as build strategic alliances with progressive minds who share its vision.

He also called for investment in youth and women participation, which he said, will serve “as drivers of electoral success, promote internal democracy, transparency and discipline, communicate our achievements effectively and consistently to the people.”

Otti said Abia State is a model for the nation to follow and the Labour Party is the driver of this very progress.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has declared that Nigerians would rather vote for performance than noise.

Abimbola Tooki Yilwatda stated this at the Renewed Hope Ambassador Initiative summit held in the Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

A statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Abimbola Tooki said, “He framed the 2027 election as a clear choice for Nigerians between noise and nation-building, populism and progress, confusion and Renewed Hope, expressing confidence that Nigerians will choose progress.”

The chairman described the 2027 general election as a referendum on reform, courage, and Nigeria’s direction.

“He stressed that victory would not be accidental but inevitable if the party communicates effectively, mobilizes strategically, and remains united.

“He charged Progressive Governors to lead with performance and communicate with precision; Renewed Hope Ambassadors to take the message to the last mile; party leaders to guard unity jealously; and all APC members to see themselves not just as supporters but as messengers of national transformation.

“He emphasized that governance must be matched with effective communication, structure, and grassroots mobilization to translate reforms into public gratitude, loyalty, and ultimately, electoral victory in 2027.

“Good governance without communication is invisible. Communication without structure is noise. And politics without grassroots mobilization is an organised defeat.”

The APC National Chairman stressed that governance and electoral success are inseparable, noting that the summit was designed to strengthen governance communication under the Renewed Hope Agenda while simultaneously laying the structural foundation for a decisive and historic victory in 2027.

According to him, while the opposition hopes that temporary discomfort from reforms will weaken the APC, the party has deliberately chosen courage over convenience.

Under President Tinubu, he noted, the APC has embraced bold economic reforms, restructuring, and long-term solutions rather than cosmetic populism.

“History does not reward hesitation; it rewards conviction. In 2027, Nigerians will not vote for noise; they will vote for results,” he asserted.
Professor Yilwatda reaffirmed that the APC is not a coalition of convenience but a disciplined movement of progress anchored on ideological clarity.

He warned against contradictory narratives, internal sabotage, and uncoordinated messaging, insisting that unity is not optional but a source of strategic power.

He explained that when the President speaks, governors must echo; when governors deliver, ambassadors must amplify; and when the party decides, members must defend. Such cohesion, he said, is critical to sustaining reforms and winning public trust.

Drawing a sharp contrast, the APC Chairman said while the ruling party reforms and builds, the opposition complains, speculates, and spreads despair without offering credible alternatives.

He expressed confidence that when Nigerians return to the ballot in 2027, they will vote not just for a party but for stability, courage, and Renewed Hope.

By Wumi Tewogbade, ,Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the peaceful conduct of the Saturday’s Area Council elections, saying the outcome has shown Nigerians the ruling party and the real opposition party in the country.

In a special broadcast on national television and radio stations on Sunday evening, the minister said the peaceful conduct of the election was a testament to the commitment of the people of the FCT to democracy and good governance.

The Minister, who said the election further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnut from roadside sellers for the purpose of campaign just to deceive Nigerians, added that “the residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats, who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.”

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the development he has brought to the FCT, saying “the election is a reflection of the President’s vision and leadership, and a testimony that the Renewed Hope Agenda has brought optimism and confidence to the people of the FCT.”

The broadcast read in part: “The peaceful conduct of the election is a testament to the commitment of the people of the FCT to democracy and good governance. I thank the residents for believing in the renewed and credible democratic process being championed by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

“To all the candidates who participated in the election, I commend your belief in our democracy. Your participation is a proof of your commitment to ensuring that the voice of the minority is heard, even when it is the majority that will always have its way.

“Most especially, I congratulate the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for their victories.

“This election has indeed shown that Nigerians now know the ruling party and the real opposition party.

“Also, the election has further exposed the hypocrisy of people who go about buying corn and groundnut from roadside sellers for the purpose of campaign just to deceive Nigerians. Yesterday, the residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats, who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government.

“I thank Mr President for the development he has brought to the FCT. This election is a reflection of the President’s vision and leadership, and a testimony that the Renewed Hope Agenda has brought optimism and confidence to the people of the FCT.

“No doubt, the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly the residents of the FCT, has not gone unnoticed. The Renewed Hope Agenda has given us hope for a brighter future, and we are confident that under his leadership, the FCT will continue to be a model of development and progress.

“Most especially, I commend the President for standing firm in his defence of democracy, particularly in ensuring the amendment of the Electoral Act to strengthen the conduct of credible elections. This demonstrates his commitment to improving our democratic process.

“At this juncture, I also congratulate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a free, fair, and credible election. This is a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening our democratic institutions and ensuring that our electoral processes are transparent and reliable.

“To the winners of the elections, I congratulate you on your victory. You have been given a mandate to serve the people, and I urge you to do so with humility, dedication, and commitment to excellence. Work tirelessly to improve the lives of the residents, and bring development to our communities.

“To the residents of the FCT, especially those in the satellite towns, I once again commend you for coming out in large numbers to exercise your franchise, and for doing so in a peaceful and orderly manner. Your participation affirms your trust in our democracy and I urge you to continue to support the government in its efforts to build a better FCT.

“As an administration, we pledge to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to FCT residents, in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to the winners of the recently concluded Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while specifically commending the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his outstanding leadership and achievements that contributed to the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s strong showing at the polls.

The elections, held on Saturday across the six Area Councils of the FCT — Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, Bwari, and Abaji — marked a significant political event in the nation’s capital. The polls were also accompanied by by-elections in Kano and Rivers states. President Tinubu described the victories as a reflection of the people’s trust and a call for the elected officials to serve with humility, patriotism, and unwavering dedication.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President highlighted the “remarkable achievements” of Minister Wike in the FCT. He noted that these accomplishments have directly translated into political dividends for the governing APC, underscoring Wike’s effective administration and development efforts in Abuja as key factors in the party’s success.

“He commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.

President Tinubu further congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as its chapters in Kano, Rivers, and the FCT, along with all party members who worked tirelessly to secure the wins. He urged the newly elected chairmen and councilors to view their mandates as a sacred trust and to prioritize the welfare and development needs of their constituents.

The FCT elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) amid reports of peaceful proceedings in many areas, though some observers noted low voter turnout and isolated incidents. Minister Wike himself praised the orderly and hitch-free nature of the exercise, crediting security measures — including restricted movement approved by the President — for helping maintain calm.

This development comes as a boost for the APC in the FCT, a region where the party has sought to strengthen its foothold ahead of future elections. Wike’s tenure as FCT Minister has been characterized by aggressive infrastructure projects, road constructions, and urban renewal initiatives, which many credit for enhancing the ruling party’s appeal among residents.

As the results are fully declared and the winners prepare to assume office, President Tinubu’s commendation reinforces the administration’s focus on good governance, performance, and political consolidation in the nation’s capital.

The victories in the FCT, alongside successes in the by-elections in Kano and Rivers, signal continued momentum for the APC under President Tinubu’s leadership.
