Those Decamping From PDP To APC Should Commend Me -Wike
By Wumi Tewogbade, Abuja
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, said those decamping from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to All Progressives Congress (APC), should command him for laying a good foundation for them.
Wike stated this at the flag-off of the construction of the Main Carriageways of Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX)
from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction, Abuja.
Wike added that all the people, especially politicians that were accusing him of working for the APC have now joined the party.
According to Wike, “I am very happy and very soon, I will speak to the Nigerians. I have been watching on daily televisions and social media. People who said I want to destabilise the party, that I am working for APC, all of them are now in APC.
“This means, if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. So, I should be commended for doing a good job for them. I have told people that politics is for the matured people. In politics, you have to be very careful and I have told people to know this”.
It would be recalled that in the last few months, there have been lots of defections from PDP to APC like Sheriff Oborevwori and most recently, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
The FCT minister also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for taking the initiative to remove fuel subsidy when he took over power.
He recalled that when he was governor of Rivers state, he used to beg for loan from commercial banks but now things have changed because of the removal of subsidy.
He said, “Now, let every state be sincere to their people and to Nigerians. I was a governor for 8 years. I was a governor running around banks to look for money to do projects. Sometimes, in every month, the money that will come, will not be enough for paying of salaries, and all other allowances. Not to talk about doing a project.
“Today, by the leadership of somebody, by the decisive leadership of somebody, who has made it possible for all the states and the Federal Capital Territory, not to be running around banks again, rather banks are now looking for states to say, don’t throw us away, we are here”.
Commending President Tinubu, “Somebody by his leadership has made that possible. Every state now has money, not only to pay salaries, not only to carry out other government activities, but now to embark on projects. It was not like that before. If it’s for that reason, so many people are going to support Mr. President, I think it is worthwhile. Because I don’t see how somebody makes governance easy for you.
“Now, no governor will talk about leaving debt for his successor, unlike what used to happen before. That is leadership of somebody. It was not possible before. If Mr. President did not take that decisive decision, to say, this subsidy must come to an end. Today, most states wouldn’t have been able to pay salaries. In FCT also, it would have been difficult.
“So, it doesn’t matter the party you belong to. The truth must be told. When you see good leadership, you say this is good leadership, and that’s what this country needs for now. Visionary leadership, purposeful leadership, that be able to take decision, decision that people are running away from taking when they had the opportunity. Now somebody said, somebody has to take this decision, and the President said, he will take it, and he has taken those decisions”.
While moving a vote of thanks, FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud described the project as a bold step toward easing traffic flow, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing mobility for residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
She said the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu constantly reminds Nigerians that progress is built not only in policy but in the visible transformation of lives and communities.
In the same breath, Mahmoud hailed the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his unwavering energy, foresight, and passion in ensuring that infrastructure development in the FCT is both meaningful and people-centered.
According to her, “Under your watch, the FCT has truly become a construction powerhouse and a beacon of national renewal.”

We will choke them with what we have done in education – Wike
By Wumi Tewogbade, Abuja
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike,on Tuesday, said his administration has concluded arrangements to commence the commissioning of projects that have been concluded in Education Sector.
Wike stated this during the commissioning of the newly provided Engineering Infrastructure in Wuye District Abuja.
After 20 days of flag offs and commissioning, he said he will take a break and come back for commissioning of projects in the education sector.
He said, “After this series of flag-offs and commissionings, we’ll take a short break. Twenty days of events is not a small feat. Afterward, we’ll turn our focus fully to education. For twenty more days, we’ll show Nigerians what we have done in that sector — and it will surprise many. Our work is not only about roads and infrastructure; it also extends to education.
Taking a swipe at the last administration, he said the project was awarded in 2009 but President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, came in and completed the project.
“Under previous administrations, projects were abandoned. But today, those roads are being dualised and completed. President Tinubu has transformed not just the city but the satellite towns as well.
“People often come to us to say this contract was awarded long ago. Yes, it was awarded in 2009, and yet it remained abandoned because there was no payment. From that time till 2023, nothing was done.
“When this administration came in, the President took immediate steps to revive it. The entire Gwagwalada district — with hundreds of hectares of land — was developed to include road networks, sectoral arterials, tunnels, water and electricity. The President said clearly: I have come to bring renewed hope to the people.
“Many had lost faith, but he restored it. Within one year in office, major projects were completed — including the interchange that had caused traffic chaos in the area. Today, the entire district is fully developed”,he said.
He therefore challenged, “If there’s any administration since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory that has done more than what we are doing, let them speak up now. Their silence says it all — this is leadership that is committed, leadership that is changing lives”.
He commended the management and staff of FCT for all their supports and hardwork and urged them to be proud of themselves anywhere they go.
“Let me thank everyone working with the FCTA. You’ve done well. Stand tall and be proud of your efforts. You’ve broken records. Wherever you go, carry your shoulders high — tell anyone who doubts it that the FCT is working”, he noted .
In her remarks, FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project is about giving communities the infrastructure they deserve and the comfort they have long awaited.
In her words, “As we celebrate this achievement, let us remember that every milestone is a promise kept, and every completion is a beginning anew.”
Mahmoud, therefore, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope Agenda continues to illuminate every corner of the Federal Capital Territory.
In the same vein, Mahmoud extended the administration’s profound appreciation to the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his exemplary leadership and relentless drive to deliver projects that touch lives and uplift communities.

By Wumi Tewogbade, Abuja
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike on Monday, flag off the construction of 300 capacity male and female hostels at Nigerian Law School, Bwari Abuja.
Wike said he was there to fulfil the promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made in December last year and assured that the two hostels would be completed in 12 months.
He emphasised the importance of completing the hostels on time, so that the school would be able to admit more students .
According to the minister, “And that is why the school is unable to accommodate the number that are being turned down from the various universities. That promise he made was in December. Today, we are here to fulfill that promise that Mr. President made. This shows that when you have good leadership, there is nothing difficult in achieving results, and Mr. President has shown leadership”.
He added that Mr. President, has also given approval for the construction of a bigger auditorium for the school.
He said, “I was discussing with my son, who by the grace of God was called to bar in the last Call to Bar ceremony, and he told me that, is like they have completed the auditorium. So I said, now that we are providing hostels that will take almost 600 students, it will mean that they will not admit more students. He said, well, it will not necessarily follow. I said, so what will happen? He said, well, that auditorium, will likely not take everybody. I said, okay, it means they require another auditorium so that they can. And so, luckily for us, I was privileged to be with Mr. President last night, and I tabled this to him, he said, go back, make sure another auditorium is built for Nigerian law school.
“Let me assure you, the 12 months is 12 months. The contractors are aware that we will not accept variations or anything else”, he noted.
The Director General, Nigerian Law School, Prof Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, commended President Tinubu for approving the projects, assuring that the hostels will address the challenge of accommodation for students.
“This hostels will go a long way in assisting the Nigerian Law School to fulfilling its mandate. We are not taking this gesture for granted.
“On behalf of the Council of Legal Education, Nigerian Law School, management, staff and students, I respectfully thank His Excellency, President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this project “, he said.
